The network

We mapped the districtbefore we sold anything in it.

Marketplaces usually treat geography as an address field. For a rural district it is the entire problem — so it is modelled first, in detail, and everything else is defined against it.

How a district is modelled

Four things, and everything is one of them

Almost every record in the system carries a zone and a block. That is not tidiness — it is what makes a question like “which drivers can reach this village tonight” answerable in one query rather than a spreadsheet.

    Nalanda is a zone. Everything else carries its id, so every query — which shops, which drivers, which orders — is already scoped to a place.

    A village, panchayat or block HQ

    284 of them placed in Nalanda with real coordinates. A node is either somewhere goods come from or somewhere they go — the hierarchy says which.

    The route between two nodes

    Not a straight line on a map — a real road with a measured condition, an energy cost and a speed the fleet actually achieves on it.

The road digital twin

The roads tell us what they are like

Every trip our fleet makes returns vehicle dynamics, energy draw, GPS and motion data. Repeated passes over the same stretch turn into a condition rating, an energy cost, and a speed the vehicle actually achieves — which is what a delivery promise should be built on, rather than a straight-line distance.

This is Pathik, DeepValley’s road intelligence model, and Metagaon is its first commercial consumer. Routing, vehicle choice and what a shopkeeper can promise all read from it.

What the fleet found

Seven smooth segments. Seven hundred and seventy-four deteriorated.

Of the road our own vehicles have driven often enough to classify, this is the split. It is not a flattering number and it is the reason the routing exists: a promise made on map distance across roads like these is a promise broken.

The fleet

Nobody was recruited into existence

Every agent on Metagaon is an e-rickshaw driver already on DeepValley's battery subscription. They were driving these roads before the marketplace existed, earning from the trade they already run.

That matters commercially more than it sounds. A delivery network normally has to buy its supply side into being and keep paying to hold it there. Here the vehicles, the drivers and the reason for them to be on that road at that hour all pre-date the first order — deliveries are additional income on a route already being driven.

Drivers never install a Metagaon app. The accept, collect, photograph and deliver flow lives inside the app they already open every day for their battery, which is the only app a driver should reasonably be asked to keep.

Village pages

A place, not a catchment area

A household opens Metagaon and sees their own village: which services reach it, whether a driver covers it, whether anyone here earns from the network. A block development officer opens the same page.

Scored on what the system already counts

Drivers covering the village, drivers based in it, shops that have delivered, households signed up, services live. No survey to run, nothing to go stale between rounds, and never a household asked to answer questions about itself.

Spoken in the vocabulary a BDO uses

Milestones are tagged to the Localised SDG themes the Panchayat Development Index already scores on — carried as a label, never as a score we invented.

Explicit about what it cannot see

The network cannot tell whether a house has piped water or an LPG connection, so no milestone claims to. It can see whether a village is connected to a market and whether somebody in it earns from that.

Counts, never names

A village page carries numbers and first names and never a household's identity. That rule is enforced in the service layer, not left to whoever writes the next screen.

The distinction that matters

The whole of Nalanda is enumerated — 20 blocks, 229 panchayats, 284 nodes placed with real coordinates — and 900 km of its road network is held segment by segment. Deliveries run in one block of it. Mapping a district is cheap and we did it early; serving one is the expensive part and we are doing it a village at a time, on purpose.
